Is this a valid concern. The trouble is that cats need our attention more than anything but they stick their furry noses in the air and wont admit it. But this joy can be fleeting and Mittens can and will go right back to ignoring you the moment it suits her.
Whether your cat does this can depend on the cat itself and also the environment you provide for it. The wise among us tell us to practice moderation in all things. Of course your cat may understand that the change in your volume means something is different but yelling may scare your cat or call too much attention to negative behaviors. Otherwise try to schedule special times for playing lap-cuddling and petting for these cats.
